BAK BAKFlip VP Tonneau Cover Customer Reviews

Sure, if money were no object, you'd go ahead and blow a wad of cash on some carbon fiber, hand-painted, Wi-Fi-ready tonneau cover. But, for truck owners with premium taste who don't have Daddy Warbucks' bank account, the BAKFlip VP Tonneau Cover gives you the most BAK for your buck.
Born from BAK's incredibly popular BAKFlip line of truck bed covers, the BAKFlip VP lives up to the family name in every way. Its hard deck is made from vinyl-covered aluminum panels with an EPS core for strength and rigidity. At 5/8" thick, it has enough muscle to support up to 300 lbs of evenly distributed weight up top.
Opening and closing your BAK BAKFlip VP is flippin' easy. Each panel is connected by hidden hinges, so you simply fold it forward to reach your cargo. It even flips all the way up to your rear window, giving you full bed access and protecting your glass from shifting cargo. Plus, you never have to fiddle with locks and levers to secure your BAKFlip VP—its automatic slam latches engage with every fold.
Weighing it at under 50 lbs, the BAKFlip VP Tonneau is a breeze to install single-handedly and requires no drilling. And, BAK backs your bed cover with a 2-year warranty.

I choose the BAKFlip VP because it finished off the truck nicely. I like the look of a smooth cover over the separate panels on the other models. The install was pretty easy once the side rails are clamped on, the cover then snaps right on. Adjust the position and your pretty much done. Two things to mention: Spray in liner requires adhesion promoter (not included) and I had sharp metal filings from manufacturing that almost damaged the vinyl covering. All in all a good addition to the truck.

Installation was very simple. Like the style and look. Very nice unit! Only concern is the wire that attached to the latches. They chafe of the exposed alluminum housing. Needs a gromet here.

Easy to install (about an hour), fits great and looks fantastic. I work with a lot guys who have trucks....got a crowd around it immediately and everyone said the same thing, "what a great looking cover". The only problem was the bolts that came with the kit that hold the front part of the cover were for another model cover, but BakFlip immediately sent the correct ones. Happy Camper I Am.

Installed in 1-1/2hrs-had to notch out the bedliner on the tailgate. It sat in a box for 3 weeks-some of the rubber seals set. A warm day should relax the rubber and sit fine. Rained next day and leaked a bit, but it's not a fair assessment til I get the seals to lie flat. I like the flush smooth look & it seems well made-directions were OK. Although I got a good deal @ AutoAnything, IMO ALL tonneaus are overpriced. Better than soft ones cause it's secure & can take a load. I'm happy so far

First off the Bakflip VP is great so far. It's stood up perfectly to the latest snow storm we had. BUT the instructions to install it SUCKED! The instructions specifically say for a Tacaoma to drill a hole in the front for a mounting bolt but those must be for a different cover because the VP cover already has a nut mounted for the this. Luckily I went to look online (YouTube) before I ruined it. I haven't hooked up the drainage tubes yet, you have to drill a hole in the plastic bed for them.

Hi Gary, Yes, a smooth surface will seal better than a rough one.

I own a 2013 Chevy Silverado and was wondering if the tailgate spoiler can remain on the tailgate for this product.
Answered by Nathan S. — Mar 19, 2013 11:09 AM
Hi Stan, The cover works with pretty much any tailgate cap, so as long as the top of your tailgate is flat, it should be fine.

what does the different options mean for my 2012 crew cab 5.5 bed f150? without cargo management system, or with cargo management system? i do not have anything in my bed now, but i would like to eventually buy a bak flip vp and a bak box. thanks
Answered by Nathan S. — Dec 20, 2012 11:14 AM
Hello, A cargo management system is a cargo-handling set of sliding rails added to the inside of the bed and under the bed rails. If there are no rails bolted to the inside of your bed, you don't have a cargo management system and will be fine ordering accordingly.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WITH OR WITHOUT CARGO MANAGEMENT?
Answered by Elizabeth C. — Sep 07, 2012 3:21 PM
Hello. Cargo management is a system of rails on the inside of your bed, and dividers to separate and hold your cargo. Thank you for your question.

The VP cover came with drain tubes, but I don’t want them so I’m wondering if I can still use the cover without the tubes?
Answered by Elizabeth C. — Sep 04, 2012 2:52 PM
Hello Tony. Yes. According to our contact at BAK the drain tubes are included as an option but they are not necessary for the cover to function. Hope that helps.
