"The hitch is nice, but does not install as easy as it sounds. I had to use a 5lb. sledge hammer and beat the snot out of the hitch to fit it over the frame. Also had to drill holes, which it said my model required no drilling. Nice hitch after about five hours of work."

"The only problem was with part of the instructions. The instructions state to disconnect TWO muffler hangers and shows their locations. Problem is, there are THREE hangers to disconnect before the mufflers lower enough to create a workable space. The 3rd hanger is roughly 3 feet forward of the hanger on the passenger side of the car. This mistake created about a 30 minute delay in the job. All other instructions were fine and the rest of the installation went well. The hitch is well constructed and shipping was extremely fast."

"When I bought this hitch I was especially inspired to read that it was 'no drilling required.' Except that the first instruction was 'enlarge these holes from 7/8th inches to 1 1/8th inches.' I realize that this is not, per se, putting new holes in the frame of the car, but I really did not want to take power tools to my car's frame and this little "misleading" claim mostly ruined that. Beyond that, the installation went mostly as expected."

"Hitch came badly scratched since it ships naked with only a delivery tag. Bolts did not fit my Honda's frame and had to be redrilled. My muffler had to be unbolted for the install. After buying a can of Rustoleum paint and applying several coats the trailer hitch looked great. Install and paint added $130 to the hitch purchase price.PLUS several of the bolts were too short for the install and had to be purchased locally. Would have been cheaper going to professional."

Great Hitch - 2 Hour Installation on 1998 Toyota 4-Runner

Posted on 05/09/2008 by Scott P. - 1998 Toyota 4-Runner (Sitka,AK)

"The most difficult part of the installation was removing the rusty bolts on the tie down brackets on my 1998 Toyota 4-Runner! After I got through that torture (broke two bolts in the process), and cleaning off the loose rust from my truck's undercarriage, the Hidden Hitch went on smoothly. The directions state that you should use the nuts that are welded inside the frame, but two of those nuts broke their welds in the process of removing the bolts (metal to metal corrosion and fatigue). I just purchased new nuts at the hardware store to match the included bolts (and washers), and installed them with then bolts inside the frame (opposite of the included directions). I had to drill two 1/2 inch holes in my frame for the fourth and final bolt installation on each side, but that was simple and painless (just start with a new or freshly sharpened bit). The final result is a clean, professional-looking hitch that works great! The only MINOR issue was the lack of padding in the shipping container (as other people have noted). It arrived in a smashed cardboard box (it weighs about 40 lbs), and sustained a minor paint scratch on the receiver, which I promptly touched up before it rusted. Overall, this is a great hitch, that was relatively simple to install (not the fault of the hitch, but my 10 year old SUV's rust). I will definitely purchase from Auto Anything again...great customer service!"

"Definitely a hidden hitch, won't hardly notice unless you walk a distance from the car. The installation was a bit tricky, only because the bolts had a hard time going in. I wasn't sure what was the problem, but it had me worried for a bit, but everything seems to be safe and functional now."

"I needed a hitch so i haul some bikes and this fit the bill just right.. install was a breeze...i did it in just 12mins but make sure you got some of the ratchet wrenchs w/ the ratchet on the box end if your doing a small car like me.. the hitch fit just as it should, and if your not looking for it you wont even notice its there..{very nice}but i would have like to have some smaller hands for the top bolts,as they where the hardest part to do{tight fit for my hands}..plus it handles the bikes with ease but since its a yaris i dont think that i will do any towing with it{HA,HA}.. but a very ez install makes this hitch a winner.."

"I ordered it from Auto Anything on line expecting a 2 week wait and was shocked that it was delivered the next day!! No scratches, no missing parts. I installed it less than an hour and half that time was in figuring out how to lower the spare tire to get it out of the way! It fit perfectly with only a slight glitch when there was a small burr on the flat washer that was not stamped out cleanly not allowing the bolt to pass thru. I saved over a $100 and hours of missed work."

"The hitch is awesome. It was not complicated to install..if you are kinda wimpy or dont have the big tools to impact it or turn the cranky bolts take it to someone that does. This is a serious hitch not for wimps. The hitch was dropped off at a U Haul store by Fed Ex?? Still dont know why ??? Just a good thing my phone # was on the shipping label !!! and the U Haul guy was honest !!"
