The kit came with the wrong bolts!

"My Curt hitch (for my 2006 Pontiac Vibe) came with 4 8MM bolts, however it required 4 12MM 1.25 pitch bolts that were very difficult to find. I called all over and finally found them at Fastenal, a 30 mile round trip from home. After I finally had the correct bolts, the hitch was a breeze to install. I had to pay another 12.00 for the bolts that were suppose to be in the package. This was not a great deal for me. Carl "

2009 Subaru Forrester Hitch Install Went As Advertised

Posted on 04/20/2009 by Frederick H. - 2009 Subaru Forester (Albuquerque,NM)

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful.

"The hitch arrived just a few days after ordering. I had a friend help me. We had access to a lift which really helped. The overall installation took about 45min as advertised. However, be sure and have some kind of holder (such as a transmission lift) to support the exhaust when you lower it down (if using a lift) to facilitate the hitch install. The enlarging of the holes to allow the plate/bolts to fit went quickly. The fishing of the bolts went as advertised and thanks to having a third friend help hold up the hitch...no problems and it went quickly. Just used it on a trip to hold my luggage/ice chest and am pleased with results. Great value!"

Hitch an overall good value

Posted on 04/19/2009 by Ben L. - 2000 Ford Explorer (Greer,SC)

"The hitch came with 4 days of ordering. This was surprisingly quicker than expected. It was advertised to not require any drilling. However, I had to enlarge a hole on my car frame as the holes did not line up with those of the hitch on the passenger side. I assume this was a Curt error and not a Ford error. Packaging for shipment could be greatly improved. One of the flanges had pushed through the box. I found installation was not possible without removing and repositioning the spare tire. It would have been helpful to suggest this in the instructions. I've used it once for a bike rack. It appears to work fine. Overall a good value."

2007 Dodge

Posted on 04/17/2009 by Eugene R. - 2007 Dodge Magnum (Fayette,OH)

"The hitch arrived in 2 days. According to the directions there was to be 2 rubber mounts to be lowered for clearence. To install the hitch. My Magnum is a X-Police Wgn. The exhaust system was modified before i got it. The Rubber mounts were next to inpossible to remove off the supports. From the Y Pipe there was more supports added. But by using a 18mm Crow-foot & Breaker bar.I was able to get the job done. The bolts & nuts are torqued to 75 ft. lbs. The hitch looks great. Lots of folks around here never seen or heard of your company. But they will be looking you up when they or somebody needs a hitch. Thank you very much. This 60 year old man had found it easy to install."

Curt hitch for 2005 Jeep Liberty

Posted on 04/08/2009 by Suzanne C. - 2005 Jeep Liberty (Norwich,NY)

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.

"We received our hitch in very little time, and all parts came included. My husband installed the hitch on our Liberty in about 20 minutes. It was very simple. The hardest part installing it was preparing the existing holes in the frame for the bolts. The Jeep is a 2005, so there was a few years of road grime in the threads of the factory welded nuts in the frame. I would definitely recommend this hitch to anyone with a Jeep Liberty, it was extremely easy to install."

GREAT!!!!! Once I drilled out the holes that were wrong

Posted on 04/07/2009 by Nathan C. - 2001 Toyota Celica (Arlington,TX)

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful.

"My Hitch had two problems: My Curt Hitch came with the holes drilled incorrectly. I was able to install the hitch after I spent an hour grinding two of the holes larger with my dremel. Through the hole in the hitch, I could only see half of the hole in the frame of my car, that is how wrong it was. Next, there is so much black lacquer on both the hitch and the receiver that it doesn't fit!!!!! I got on the ground and tried to kick it in to scrape off most of the paint, and it still didn't fit. I went out to Auto Zone and bought a stainless steel receiver that went right in without a problem. Obviously the guy with the spray gun wasn't paying attention and put on too many coats or something. It works as advertised now, and looks discrete underneath the bumper, but damned it if didn't take some sweat to get it there. All I can say about Curt is that they have an extremely low quality control program at their manufacturing facility. Good Design, Bad Execution."

Strong hitch, good fit, but...

Posted on 04/07/2009 by Tony H. - 2000 Toyota Tacoma (Stafford,VA)

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful.

"The hitch is built well, fits well, however the installation is not quite as simple as the manufacturer's instructions indicate. The hitch mounts between the frame and the bumper brackets, which means you have to completely detach the bumper brackets from the frame and the bumper, bolt the bumper brackets in place against the hitch brackets, then reattach the bumper to the bumper brackets. However, now you have a 1/2" gap (1/4" per side) between the bumper bracket attach points and the mounting points on the bumper. You either have to make your own 1/4" spacers and buy longer bolts or bend the mounts into place. From a company like Curt, I found this disappointing. The manufacturer should have provided longer replacement bumper mounting bolts and spacers (4 each) and included this process in the instructions."

installing hitch and harness

Posted on 04/06/2009 by Sherrill R. - 2002 Nissan Pathfinder (Bear,DE)

"installing the hitch was fairly easy, but the electrical would have been easier if the instructions would have told me to take off the backlight and pull off the rubber gromet to get to the plug for the harness. Since this is the first time i've done this it was pretty easy.Next time it will only take maybe 45 minutes instead of 2 hours, but ovrall great product and learned alot"

Curtis Hitch for 97 Neon

Posted on 04/06/2009 by H C J. - 1997 Dodge Neon (Topock,AZ)

"The reciever hitch was not difficult to install, took about 2 hrs overall (company says 45"), it would have been easier if I had a helper. You need a drill bit extension to reach the inner bolt hole positions. I also found that a step-drill bit made quick adjustment for aligning the inner holes since I couldn't center punch them. Overall a simple project, hitch looks great."

Installation

Posted on 04/04/2009 by Tom C. - 2010 Toyota Prius (Onsted,MI)

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful.

"The hitch was in great condition when it arrived. The installation directions were good. The directions indicated an install time of about 30 minutes. This would probably be accurate if you had the vehicle on a hoist, were using pneumatic tools, and had done one before. A more accurate installation time would be about an hour and a half. That being said the installation was quite straight forward. After installation the hitch was as advertised - the only part showing was the 2x2 receiver."

"Great hitch. Well hidden and easy to install. Do yourself a favor and make sure to get the proper size sockets before you start as they are not what a lot of people have (If I remember, they were 21mm? & 19mm? deep well). Bolts lined up nicely and no trimming was required. I'd recommend this hitch."
