curt hitch review

"The hitch itself is good- the process of drilling through the frame for the 1/2 holes was a real pain- after several drill bits later and an hour of my time it was finally installed- the description for the instalation should me more detailed before the purchase"

Curt Class 3 Hitch

Posted on 04/02/2009 by Carl I. - 2007 Honda CR-V (Carpentersville,IL)

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful.

"Ordered Thursday, received Monday. Easy to install as everything lined up perfectly. Toughest part was removing muffler hangars but as others have suggested, just lube with dishwasher soap. Prop up muffler to keep from breaking off pipe. Best if you have helper hold while you attach to existing tie hook. Just tighten 4 bolts and your done. Solid and looks great."

2 bent spacer plates

Posted on 04/02/2009 by John M. (Minneapolis,MN)

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.

"Autoanything staff were superb, and the product arrived promptly. unfortunately, the spacer plate in the packaging was bent (it was drop shipped directly from Curt). Curt was Curt-eous when I called, but the replacement plate they sent me was also bent, though not as much. I ended up having to use washers instead."

Good Hitch, HORRIBLE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

Posted on 04/01/2009 by Steve C. (Malden,MA)

0 of 1 people found the following review helpful.

"The installation instructions that came with this hitch were a total joke. So much was NOT said. And, we ran into an endless amount of dead-ends, inaccuracies, etc. with the installation instructions. After about 4 hours and lots of improvising, we were finally able to get the hitch installed, and it does work just fine. But the people who write these instructions ought to spend more time researching all the particulars of the vehicle involved. Too much grey area & misinformation. How small do my fingers have to be in order to get them inside the unibody trac to hold down a nut so a bolt can be screwed in? Ridiculous."

Curt Hitch

Posted on 03/31/2009 by Isaac E. - 2001 Toyota Sienna (Glen Ellyn,IL)

"The hitch was boxed and was received undamaged. I guess they used to send them out unboxed and would arrive bent. It is good quality and installation was very easy on my '01 Sienna. There was no drilling involved for my installation which the other brands didn't offer for a 2in receiver. Best of all. . . Made in the USA"

A Great Hitch that's Super Easy to Install

Posted on 03/25/2009 by Robert W. - 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser (Diller,NE)

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful.

"I purchased this Curt Receiver hitch for my 2001 PT Cruiser so I could use a hitch mount bike rack. I have installed another brand of hitch on a different vehicle and had some difficulties. Needless to say, I was somewhat skeptical that installing this hitch could be as easy as the instructions said. Boy, was I wrong. It was a piece of cake. Things went exactly as described and in no time at all I had the hitch on. All is hidden except the actual receiver and it works great with my bike rack. I would highly recommend a Curt Hitch to anyone wanting a great hitch that they can install themselves. Will buy one again when I need one for another vehicle."

Posted on 03/15/2009 by Aaron F. - 2006 Volkswagen Touareg (San Jose,CA)

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.

"Nice hitch, mounts easily in place of rear crossmember beneath the bumper using existing mounting holes. Took less than one hour for the hitch, a little over an hour for the wire harness (most of that time is spent on the left turn signal, as the wires are not easily accessed)."

Looks good on my Cad (2000 SeVille)

Posted on 03/12/2009 by Robert S. - 2000 Cadillac SeVille (Bakersfield,CA)

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.

"It fit well on my 2000 SeVille; it is hidden and only cost $200 to have installed. The exhaust had to be dropped some, the bumper cover below had to be cut (just a hole for the hitch couple to protrude out of), and other than that, it was a breeze. It only took a few hours and a car lift to do the job. Good luck on your own."

"The hitch quality is excellent. The 1999 Passat has no intentions of taking a hitch easily. Plan on ramps, jack stands, ½" drill and patience. The rear fender diassembly is an all day effort."

Curt Receiver Hitch for 2005 Subaru WRX STi

Posted on 03/09/2009 by Paul M. - 2005 Subaru Impreza WRX (Westlake Village,CA)

"Quality of the receiver hitch was very good and the hitch fits a stock 2005 STi as expected (only minor trimming of the bumper cover is required). My only negative comment regarding fitment onto an STi is that after fitting the hitch, it appears that maybe a minor design change to the piece that crosses the exhaust tip could have: (1) allowed the exhaust to hang at the same level as the factory hanger position while maintaining enough clearance between the hitch and exhaust system, and (2) prevented the trimming of the bumper cover."

Quality is absolutely supurb. 1995 4runner

Posted on 03/05/2009 by Christian M. - 1995 Toyota 4-Runner (Fort Pierce,FL)

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.

"The curt hitch I received was exactly what I wanted. Simple installation, high quality and at an excellent price. I was lucky enough to catch break on the hitch itself, which may it all that much better. Calling around locally, most places want $340+. I purchased mine for $180, with a receiver ball mount kit, and with this save an additional $25. I called one of the local places back after I purchased and they were mad because they could not compete with the price I located it for. It took 2 days for me to receive. Also, with all of the other hitches I located, all had plates you had to position. This curt hitch had those plates welded onto the mounting plates. Installation was a breeze. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND AUTOANYTHING AND CURT HITCHES TO ANYONE AND EVERYONE. CUSTOMER SERVICE IS A+++++"

Nice product. Fit well AFTER I bought a longer bolt!

Posted on 03/05/2009 by Mark R. - 1993 Ford Escort (Valley Springs,AR)

"I liked the design and ease of installation. HOWEVER three bolts went in quite easily, the fourth needed to be longer. I would send bolts for the side rail mounts that are 1/4" to 1/2" longer to keep someone from running into the same problem I did. I finally had to go out and buy one and then it went right on. There is a double wall in the area you have to drill and the bolt just would not reach past it into the "capture nut"."
