Purchased a Curt Model #C12108 1-1/4" Receiver Hitch for a 2013 Rav4 from AutoAnything.com and had it shipped to the house. It arrived quickly and was easy to install. The instructions were easy to follow and there is plenty of room between the hitch and the muffler (which is an issue for the new 2013 Rav4 and some older Rav4 hitches.) In my opinion, the only thing that could be improved upon would be if there was a way to conceal the hitch cross-tube behind the rear bumper fascia.

The hitch is straightforward to install. The diagrams for installation could be better illustrated. It was a two person job to mount the hitch into position. The hitch itself protrudes out from the RAV4 bumper and is more visible than I expected. However, the quality is solid and well built.

Very happy with purchase. Order arrived within a couple of days. The box was torn up but nothing broken. Hardest part of the installation was removing the exhaust hooks, but with some WD40 and a good set of pliers was able to get them off. The hitch it perfectly into the predrilled holes. Over it me, a novice, about 90 mins, with most of that playing around with the exhaust hooks. Looks great and so far so good. Very happy

I received the hitch promptly within one week after ordering it. Although I have installed a hitch before on another vehicle, I decided to take a rest and brought the hitch to a local auto shop. They installed it within 30 minutes without any problems. No squeaks or rattles. I plan on using the hitch to tow a small canoe/kayak trailer and to transport bicycles using a hitch-mounted carrier. Now that the hitch is on, I'm ready to paddle and ride!

what is the different between the 2 and 1.25 inch hitch? Which one is better? Which one is more functional? Why is the 2" cheaper than 1.25"? Thanks
Answered by Nathan S. — Jan 28, 2013 10:28 AM
Hi, Hitches are divided by weight ratings. Class I & II 1.25" receiver hitches are usually the only option for cars, crossovers and small SUVs. Class III &IV hitches use 2" receivers and are often found on large SUVs and trucks. The Class III & IV with their 2" receivers tend to be cheaper because they require far less engineering and design to fit unlike the cramped confines found in chassis of smaller vehicles.

It's also important to keep in mind that GTW = the weight of the trailer fully loaded and ready to tow, and that TW is the downward force exerted on the hitch ball by the trailer tongue.

Answered by Mike R. — Mar 08, 2012 6:33 AM 2012 Toyota Yaris
I bought a Yakima Big Horn rack from Auto Anything, which is capable of carrying 4 bikes. I typically carry only 1 bike. But the Yakima rack is very secure, which is great. I use it on a Class 1 receiver (1-1/4") and I couldn't feel more secure about my bikes. My carrier is mounted on a 2012 Toyota Yaris, which is smaller than your Maxima. (A friend down the street advised AGAINST buying a 2-bike carrier if there's even a slight chance you may want to carry more than 2 bikes sometime in the future. I'm glad I took his advice, because with the Yakima Big Horn, I didn't pay a premium for a 4-bike capacity.) If you plan to carry only bikes with your car, a class 1 receiver hitch is certainly stout enough for 4+ bikes!!!

Hi Thelma, the receiver hitch itself is bolted permanently to the chassis of your vehicle. However, the hitch ball itself is held on by a quick release hitch pin.

Hey Joe, I put your vehicle info into the Select Your Vehicle dropdowns above and for your '10 Escape, this is a Class II hitch that can handle up to 3,500 lbs. Expert Shopping Tip: enter your vehicle info in the dropdowns above to get detailed info about the product. Thanks, Rob

I've never used a bolt on hitch receiver before and don't know if my 2010 BMW 528i will have pre drilled holes in the frame for the Curtis rack to bolt onto. Do you have that info??

Hey Art, I tracked down the answer, but you may not want to hear it: Yes, you'll have to drill holes into your bimmer. Most vehicles already have factory-drilled holes, but your ultimate Bavarian machine is not one of them. If you'd like to check out the installation process, you can view it here: http://sitepro12.sitepro.com/masterlibrary/11498/installsheet/CM_11498_INS.pdf If you're not comfortable doing the drilling, any shop should be able to do the install for you.
