"I have a 2007 Honda Pilot and wanted to install the read hitch so I can use a bike rack.
I took off the tow hook, easily done.
Before installing the CURT hitch thought to test thread the bolts. Well on the holes from the removed tow plate, not a problem, went in like hot knife into butter.
But PROBLEM on the other side since it was exposed to the elements for the past 4 yrs, The bolts would not screw in. Tried spraying with WD-40, tried to use a toothbrush to clean out the holes, Used a wire battery brush as well, but the bolts would nor thread in. Turns out I have to tap into the holes to reseat them, to cut them and clean them out. Do I have a tap set for this, nope. Have to go to a garage and pay them a few bucks to tap the holes, cut the holes and all should be fine. Hope it works, otherwise cannot use the hitch with the intended bolts.
So if you have a used vehicle, this can happen to you. You will have to cut the threads, tap them to clean them out. Either you have a set or have to go to someone that does.
Not what I expected, but happens I guess with exposed holes underneath the body." —Michael W from Brooklyn, NY bought a CURT Receiver Hitches for a 2007 Honda Pilot.
