Great Hitch - 2 Hour Installation on 1998 Toyota 4-Runner

Reviewed By Scott P (Sitka, AK) Reviewed for a 1998 Toyota 4Runner —5/9/2008 9:51 PM

The most difficult part of the installation was removing the rusty bolts on the tie down brackets on my 1998 Toyota 4-Runner! After I got through that torture (broke two bolts in the process), and cleaning off the loose rust from my truck's undercarriage, the Hidden Hitch went on smoothly. The directions state that you should use the nuts that are welded inside the frame, but two of those nuts broke their welds in the process of removing the bolts (metal to metal corrosion and fatigue). I just purchased new nuts at the hardware store to match the included bolts (and washers), and installed them with then bolts inside the frame (opposite of the included directions). I had to drill two 1/2 inch holes in my frame for the fourth and final bolt installation on each side, but that was simple and painless (just start with a new or freshly sharpened bit). The final result is a clean, professional-looking hitch that works great! The only MINOR issue was the lack of padding in the shipping container (as other people have noted). It arrived in a smashed cardboard box (it weighs about 40 lbs), and sustained a minor paint scratch on the receiver, which I promptly touched up before it rusted. Overall, this is a great hitch, that was relatively simple to install (not the fault of the hitch, but my 10 year old SUV's rust). I will definitely purchase from Auto Anything again...great customer service!

Draw-Tite Receiver Hitches Reviews

Bent but it works

Reviewed By Thomas Y (Belmont, NC) Reviewed for a 2008 Toyota 4Runner —4/29/2008 4:40 AM

After receiving the hitch via Fedex, I began installation later that night. I have 9 years in the RV business (3 as service manager). I was confident it would be an easy job. Unfortunately, a nut was missing from the hardware pack, one of the bolts had a different thread pitch than the car's frame nut and one of the flange's was bent which means the holes didn't line up. This 1 hour job turned into a 3 hour job as I had to locate a high grade replacement for the missing nut, tap out the existing nut welded to the frame of the car and get a volunteer to pry one of the flange arms out to line up the holes so I could get the bolts installed. None of the problems I encountered were's fault. This missing/incorrect hardware and improperly welded flange was Draw-tite's fault. (There was no missing paint to indicate shipping damage). If I had the time, I would have exchanged the hitch but I needed to use it the next day. did a great job of getting my hitch to me on time and I would buy from them again.
