CURT Receiver Hitches Reviews

Nice hitch but installation may not be easy.

Reviewed By James S (Chico, CA) Reviewed for a 2004 Toyota Avalon —9/1/2010 8:49 PM

The hitch for my 2004 Avalon seemed well made but the mounting holes didn't align properly with the Avalon's chassis. I had to clamp the hitch in a vice and bend one of the mounting flanges. That still didn't quite do the trick, so I had to also enlarge one of the bolt slots with a small metal file. Once the bolt holes lined up, installation went nicely. One small issue for use is that there is quite a bit of slop in the receiver. I wrapped mine with some duck tape to stop some of the rattling and banging noises. Overall I was satisfied with the end result, but installation wasn't easy.

great hitch--easy installation

Reviewed By Randall B (Fanwood, NJ) Reviewed for a 2011 Toyota Avalon —10/15/2011 6:44 AM

I've installed more than 10 hitches over the years and this one is one of the easiest I'vs had to install. It arrived within 3 days after I ordered it and had the hardware package safely tucked into the receiver [I had a Valley hitch once delivered with the wrong hardware package and had to wait another 4 days for the correct one to arrive]. I like to give all hitches I install 2 coats of Rustoleum paint before I install it so it will remain rust free for years. It helps to use a hydraulic floor jack or have a partner help hold the hitch until you can get the first 2 bolts installed. Be sure to clean the threads on the nuts that are welded to the vehicle frame with a wire brush, WD 440 and or compressed air before you install the bolts.

CURT Ball Mount Reviews

Stout, solid ball mount

Reviewed By Alan D (Idaho Falls, ID) Reviewed for a 2007 Toyota Avalon —10/13/2008 12:02 PM

The Curt Class V ball mount (SKU=3068594, part # D-124) is a sturdy, solid mount with 1.25" shank hole, rated at 12,000 lbs GTW and 1,200 TW. To minimize leverage on the tow vehicle, it is not excessively long. I'll try to update this review after the dealer finally lets me have my trailer (it's not yet ready for delivery) and I can try towing with it.
