The install was very simple. It didn't look as clean as I would have liked with the number of hose clamps. Also the molding around the heat shield needed to be trimmed by about an inch for it to fit properly. Initially none of the tubes or hoses matched up perfectly but once tightened and driven a bit the engine heat set everything up and it is rock solid. I retightened all of the clamps and bolts about two weeks after the install and they have stayed tight ever since. As for performance. The engine definitely roars when you put your foot into it, and that's out of a little V6. Gas mileage went from 16-18MPG in the city, and from 22-26 on the highway. You also get a noticeable increase in acceleration and response. AutoAnything was great. Shipping was ridiculously fast. I had it the next day. Didn't even have time to hide it from the wife!

I decided to try the FIPK Intake on my Explorer to get a little more 'umph' out of it and possibly a little better mileage. The kit guarantees over 8 hp increase on my engine - it feels like 20! There is absolutely no hesitation, the transmissiion downshifts effortlessly, and it's like driving a new truck. Did I mention that this truck has 168k on it, which some would consider a waste of money on something that old, but I plan on running this truck for a few more years. I may consider adding a Flowmaster now to complete the increased airflow system. BTW, it took just over an hour to install, however I had familiarized myself with the installation instructions provided online. I will definitely add this system to any rig I own in the future, as I have thought of a few vehicles from my past that could have benefitted from this kit. Buy it; you won't be disappointed, and Auto Anything has the best price!

The installation was not that difficult although I did have to drill a hole for my temp sensor which I was not expecting so it took longer than expected. My truck actually runs quieter/cleaner at idle and when I accelerate. I do get a nice purr when I hit the gas but it's not a load overpowering sound anymore. So far so good. Too early to tell regarding gas mileage.
