Volant CAI - 2008 FJ Cruiser

Reviewed By Brian A (Vine Grove, KY) Reviewed for a 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser —12/30/2014 6:41 AM

Replaced an Injen CAI due to rattling under the hood. Volant CAI was easy to install and designed to exactly fit my FJ Cruiser under the hood. Volant has the added bonus of accepting a snorkel if you choose to go that route. Overall the quality of materials of the Injen were better, aluminum vs. plastic but performance is the same. I haven't seen any true performance improvements, good sound combined with my Gibson Monster Exhaust.

AEM Brute Force Air Intakes Reviews

Good power, easy to install, needs to have some bugs worked out

Reviewed By Jeremy R (Casselberry, FL) Reviewed for a 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser —2/6/2012 9:07 PM

I purchased a Brute Force cold air intake for my 2008 FJ cruiser. I chose this item because I had a positive experience in the past when I had them on my Jeep Wranglers. They were easy to install and added instant power and performance. The price was competitive and I felt that the quality was good as well. When I installed this product on my FJ I was happy with everything except how the heatsheild fit in the engine compartment. There were a lot of gaps and it didn't sit flush on the bottom where it was mounted. I also didn't like the lack of play in the bolt holes. The angle of the tube coming into the heatsheild was off and I didn't have any adjustment play to fix it. I left it alone but the vibration on the sheild actually cut a slice into the lower tube. I called AEM about it and they had me take pictures and email them. They were cool about it and said they would send me out a new lower tube and sound buffer for the heat sheild hole. I told them about my concerns with the heat sheild fit and design. I suggested they just open up the bolt holes in the sheild to give more flexibilty to move it around. They said that the issue was with Toyota not being consistent with their engine position, and was therfore different than their test fit vehicle. I of course said all the more reason to build the fleibilty into their product. Anyway, just waiting on my new tube and buffer...we'll see.
