Tailgate Caps

Tailgate caps protect your bed where it's most vulnerable. All of our tailgate caps may be used alone or matched with our bed caps for a custom look. Our tailgate caps are built to last and crafted from ABS, aluminum, or stainless steel. And with countless tailgate caps reviews to read, you’ll discover real experiences from real customers like you.

Did you know your truck's tailgate is one of the most vulnerable places on the vehicle? It gets consistent use and abuse. Whether you are hauling lumber or sipping cold ones at a college tailgate rally, we know how necessary tailgates are to the functionality and look of your truck, which is why we offer various tailgate caps to protect them.

What Is a Tailgate Cap?

A tailgate cap is a rugged, durable cover that fits over the top of your gate. Most products do not require trimming and come with pre-installed tape to make a secure fit easy to achieve. You can purchase caps in plastic, stainless steel, or custom designs. Some tailgate options come with LED strips.

How To Install a Tailgate Cap

Metal caps might offer better tailgate protection than plastic, but it depends on the level of abuse your tailgate takes. Regardless of the material, most cap kits are easy to install and don't require any tools. Many kits come with pre-installed tape. All you need to do is remove the red vinyl backing from the tape. Do not peel it all the way off. You only want to peel enough to access the tab ends when the cap is on the tailgate.

Then, position the cap according to the manufacturer's instructions and carefully lay it down. As you remove the tape, apply downward pressure. Move slowly across the cap until you remove all the tape backing. With all the backing removed, apply firm pressure. Depending on the tape brand, full adhesion may take 24 hours.

How To Maintain Your Tailgate Cap

Whether buying plastic or metal tailgate covers, the cleaning process is likely the same. Still, you should review manufacturer instructions for specific cleaning tips. For most caps, you can wash them the same way you do the rest of your truck; there is no need to remove them.

Caps provide an excellent way to protect one of the most vulnerable areas of your truck. If you are tired of getting nicks and dents in your tailgate, check out our wide selection of cap covers at affordable prices.

Westin Tailgate Caps

Not for 2016 Frontier Deset Runner. Fine for other Frontiers.

2016 Deset Runner had OE bolt-on tailgate topper. Removing small bolts still left //raised threaded part that interferes with good seal of replacement part. View more reviews...
