Located in Oud-Beyerland, to the south of Rotterdam in the Netherlands, KONI began the business of manufacturing horse harnesses and upholstery. That was back in 1857. By 1918, KONI had switched production to metal car panel beating/spraying and spring covers. It was these very spring covers that portended the future of KONI.

14 years later, KONI started producing friction shock absorbers. And by 1945, the KONI factory was crafting the industry's first adjustable shock absorbers. At this point, KONI took the technology they’d been using for cars and trucks, and started making dampers for railway cars.

It wasn’t until 1950 that KONI rocketed from a skilled local company into a multinational shock absorber specialist. With satellites in Germany and France, plus KONI USA, KONI North America and independent national distributors in over 90 countries, KONI is now the world’s premier high-performance shock manufacturer.
