IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Colgan Custom Manufacturing takes full responsibility for the materials and construction of this product. However, Colgan is not responsible and will not be held liable for damage resulting from the improper installation, misuse, or abuse of this product.

This universal instruction sheet covers the common connection components and mounting methods used on our auto bras. The bra you purchased may not have all of the connection components described here, and some components may be implemented differently from others shown even when they perform an identical function.

Read the instructions completely before beginning the installation of your Colgan bra. The connection components differ at some attachment points. Illustrations at each step show the possible connection components for that particular attachment point and text describes the sequence of actions that lead to successfully securing that connection component. Use the method that best corresponds to your bra's connection component and the configuration of your vehicle at each attachment point.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN

The following hints will simplify the installation process:

Make sure the box's ID label describes the make, model, and year of your vehicle.
Read all instructions before attempting installation. If instructions are unclear or you have a question, call technical support.
Consult your body shop if your vehicle has been repainted. Repainted areas must be fully cured before using an auto bra.
Wax, glaze and sealant compounds must be fully cured before using an auto bra.
Install the bra only when your vehicle is both clean and dry.
Your bra may be used in all weather conditions. If the backing gets wet, remove the bra and allow it to dry before reinstallation.
The vinyl is pliable and easier to stretch when thoroughly warm. It will be easier to install your new auto bra if you choose a warm day andlor leave the bra laid out in the sun for twenty minutes before you begin the installation process.

1.1 if you see 2 or more black plastic strips in the bag, insert each into a pocket of the air deflector and tuck the vinyl flap over the end as shown in figure 1.

1.2 If your bra does not have a separate hood piece, look for a second piece of vinyl sewn to the back of the bra. Perform steps 1.3 & 1.4 only if your one-piece bra has a hood pocket, then close your hood securely and go to installing the body section.

1.3 Open the hood. Insert hood prop if necessary.

1.4 Insert one corner of the hood 2" into the hood pocket, then insert the other corner 2" into the hood pocket. Advance alternate sides in 2" increments until the front seam of the hood pocket is snug against the leading edge of the hood. Make certain that neither the hood latch nor the hood release lever is covered by the bra material.

1.5 If you have a `T' style hood section, wrap the trailing portion of the hood piece over the rear edge of the hood. If there are only two straps, secure the s-hooks to the webbing loops on the underside of the hood piece as shown at the "circle motif" in figure 2. If there are more than two straps, stretch the straps in the direction in which they are sewn and attach the s-hook to the opening in the underside of the hood as shown at the "square motif" in figure 2.

1.6 Stretch the hood section's straps in the direction in which they are sewn and attach the s-hook to the opening in the underside of the hood as shown in figure 3. If the straps are sewn so that they point directly across the underside of the hood and/or an s-hook is present on only one strap, that hook will catch the elastic or webbing loop on the opposite strap or opposite side as shown in figure 4.

3.1 We provide some type of cover for most vehicles with retractable headlights. Only one type of headlight cover will work on a particular vehicle. Headlights must usually be in the up position when installing the forward portion of the headlight cover. If the headlight cover for your car is elasticized around its edges, see step 3.2.1f your headlight cover
figure 18 has mounting tabs, go to step 3.3. If you have a one-piece bra, see step 3.4 for information on headlight flaps.

3.2 Stretch the elastic of the "shower cap" cover over the rear edge and the corners of the headlight unit. Making sure that the vinyl fully overlaps the rolled sheetmetal edges to allow free movement of the headlight door, stretch the cover over the front edge and corners as shown in figure 18, Be sure the headlight's face is exposed. When properly installed, the figure 19 headlights will raise and lower without interfering with the normal movement of the headlights, and the headlight covers will not shift from their original position.

3.3 Insert the forward mounting tab(s) into the space between the headlight and the sheet-metal, the headlight and the bezel, or between the sheetmetal and bezel as shown in figures 19 & 20, Lower the headlights and stretch the material so that the material can be wrapped over the trailing edge of the headlight door. The rear mounting tab inserts into the space behind the headlight as shown in figure 20. When correctly installed, the headlights can be raised or lowered without interfering with the normal movement of the headlights and without affecting the tension of the vinyl as it stretches over the headlight door.

3.4 You must roll and secure headlight flaps as shown in figure 21 before switching on your headlights. Roll the flaps under so that the vinyl side of the material faces outward.Headlight flaps must be flat to prevent flap or flutter when driving.

How to Return an Item

Step 1: Start a Return from Your Online Account

Please log in to your account. Locate and click on your order under Order History. Find the item you wish to return or exchange and click on Return Item to submit your request.

Step 2: Receive a Return Authorization Number (RMA#)

An email with detailed return shipping instructions

Step 3: Pack & Ship

Pack everything that came with the product and use its original packaging.

Affix the return shipping label that we provided to the package. If we didn't provide you with a return shipping label, make sure to include the RMA# on the package
Ship the package to the address specified in the email you received from Step 2.
Returns must be sent in within 10 days of shipping label being issued or a new label will need to be issued

Step 4: Receive Your Refund or Exchange

After we receive your package, we'll process your refund or exchange after it has passed inspection. You can expect to see the refund credited within 72 hours after the return has been received to the payment method that you used when you originally placed your order.
Precise timing is subject to your financial institution. If you selected an exchange, we will ship your replacement promptly upon receipt and inspection of your returned item.

Restocking Fees

Defective Product

BRA MAINTENANCE

Remove your auto bra every time you wash your vehicle. Reinstall only when vehicle is dry.
Periodically inspect the underside of your auto bra and shake to remove any accumulated road grit, insects or other debris that might damage your paint.
Clean your auto bra with any water soluble detergent and warm water.
Tar and insect splatters can be removed with a good vinyl cleaner.
Always let a wet auto bra dry completely before reinstalling it.
Your auto bra has a topcoat of ultraviolet impervious material that protects it against drying and cracking. Avoid the use of silicone based vinyl protectants that may harm topcoat.

TROUBLE SHOOTING

Always adjust or remove a flapping, fluttering, or ballooning auto bra immediately!
Check to see that the air deflectors are in place and that each hook on the underside of the hood is securely attached and in its proper location.
If you have any doubt that your Colgan auto bra is performing properly, please remove it immediately and call technical support.

A Brief History of the “Bra” by Bill Colgan

In 1960 I had a shop in Burbank, California with about 5 employees doing custom auto and boat upholstery. No request seemed unusual at the time, from suede leather headlining to diamond tufted rumble seats. One day a group of Lockheed engineers brought me a ragged piece of canvas with sewn-in wooden slats, rubber bands, crude hooks and other miscellaneous innovations. They asked if I would be interested in making about a dozen of these and I remember saying "What the hell is it, a chastity belt for Godzilla ?" They replied that it was a protective cover used by the Porsche factory for road testing new cars and on unofficial loan to them.

I accepted the challenge and completely redesigned the German cover, spending about as much time road testing as sewing. After about six weeks and a small mountain of scrap material we finished 12 covers. Within a week the Lockheed engineers were back asking for 50 more covers. We made a total of about 150 covers at that time, all for Porsche 356 models, until I had to discontinue the project because of an overload of upholstery work.

I relocated to Newport Beach, California 10 years later where some enthusiastic Porsche friends asked me if I would make a version of the cover for the 911 series. I designed a 911 version from memory upgrading the older 356 covers. I also placed a small ad in Road & Track using the German description of the covers "Steinschlagshutzshulle". Dissected, the word means stone/strike/shield and for short I tagged it "Bra". "Bra" is the name I adopted from the beginning and Road & Track is where I tested the waters as a mail order business. In view of this I feel justified in making the claim as the originator of the "Bra" since there isn't a trace of similarity to that original pile of canvas to what is now known as a "Bra".

For the first couple of years the only covers I made were for Porsche vehicles. As orders gradually increased I decided to venture into other makes. It seemed to me, in view of the enthusiasm for the newly introduced Datsun 240-Z that I couldn't miss with this addition. But I found out differently. Acceptance by Z-owners was not immediate nor were sales for other makes. In 1973 I applied for a $3,000 loan. When I said that I wanted the money for material to make car bras, all I could see were the soles of the banker's shoes as he went over backwards. It was about 5 years, around 1975, that the bra began to show signs of interest for anyone other than Porsche owners. Soon it became obvious that those funny looking things were starting to sell and I was no longer the only one making bras. Now of course anyone with a sewing machine and a pepper tree to set up under is into the act. Today most people know what a bra is but I only wish some of these late-comers could have been there in the early days when only a handful of Porsche enthusiasts knew what a car bra was.

Our cover is still the standard used for reference by all of those who have entered the business in the last few years. To bear out this statement, there isn't a cover on the market that hasn't copied parts or all of the Colgan Custom Bra.

Adds some protection and a unique look..

I have an older Honda Element(2006) and was looking for some type of protection for the hood-enter the Colgan Sport Bra. Very easy to install and adds some needed covering and looks kinda cool. Took less than 10 minutes to install using the bands and loops. It's made of a tough fabric that hopefully will last several years with little maintenance. Overall very happy and a quick and simple upgrade.

It does exactly what I wanted it to do. The service and communication have been excellent.

Sports Bra

I bought this to put on during my long highway trips out of town. It's relatively easy to put on. Some of the fitting around the corners is really tight and snug and not 100% exact cut to the hood lines, but still okay takes some strength and holding so the other side doesn't slip Installation is fairly easy with some adjusting after the pins are in in the whole. A bit too pricy though

Colgan bra for 2009 Honda Civic

Bra is of good quality and fit but is smaller than it should be, not covering enough of the hood. I have a Colgan Bra for my 2003 Civic that I have had for years that covers twice the area which is a much better fit. The new bra should have been at least 25% larger.
