There was a funky period of time when Rambler was switching over to being called American Motors and it manufactured cars under both names. It's probably a good thing there weren't such strong identity thefts laws back in the mid-1960s. In 1968 for example, the Rebel was sold as an AMC, while the Rogue and American were sold as Ramblers. Selling an "American Motors American" would have been a bit odd, so in 1969 they called it the American Motors Rambler. Confused?
