The extender itself is really quality built without being too heavy. The template is not accurate in my opinion, however. Therefore do a "dry fit" before you drill. Remember that (mostly) you will see your extender when it is in the bed, not extended! Make this positioning look correct, that is, have everything look plumb and level. When the extender is extended it does not go completely 180 degrees, flat, because the tailgate (at least on my new 2017) does not fold all the way flat.

Recently got a new GMC with a short box. After putting my tool book in there, I didn't have a lot of room left. Sprang to get one of these. Really well built and easy to install. Seems like everyone complains about the bit they want you to use. I didn't have it as well but I just used a 1/4" bit and it worked just fine. Took me an hour to add it to my truck.

The bed extender arrived as advertised, and overall I am happy with it. There were a few small critiques I have concerning the directions and quality though. As far as directions go, there were pretty straight forward, but could have had more detail. They listed the need for a 9/64" drill bit on the front of the directions, but then later in one of the steps, it required a 1/8" and a 21/64" bit. I don't understand the plastic bumper dividers, metal or aluminum would increase quality.

Got this product in black. Installed the XTender with spray-in bedliner and hard tri-folding tonneau cover. Fits well and maneuvers easy once installed. Great way to extend your bed length or gain a compartment for smaller things when it is tucked away under the tonneau cover.

Have only installed it. Haven't really tested it yet. But overall it looks good so far. The bracket install is well-explained in the instructions, and the template is spot-on. Just be sure to use the exact tools and drill bits as instructed. Building the extender is requires lube/soapy water to adjust the width. If this is application-specific, why is that necessary? Seems like it should clamp together better too. The two plastic clamshells seem to be the weakest link.
