I have previously used 3 different models of PIAA lamps. All were good but eventually succumbed to the ravages of the road (rocks, vibration) and all cost about $200. That will likely be the fate of the Angel Eyes after a year or three, but this time the cost was only about $60. Compared to the PIAAs, the quality of illumination is about the same. The Angel Eyes are easier to aim and adjust. The PIAAs come with a better switch and a marginally better harness; plan on using a fair bit of heat-shrink and tape while mounting the Angel Eyes. The switch is not illuminated, so put it someplace where you can easily feel it in the dark while wearing thick gloves. The switch is also probably not especially waterproof; if it fails, aftermarket alternatives are readily available. The LED light ring is a nice feature; it provides conspicuity for daytime riding without putting any significant load on the charging system. It also makes my BMW look a little bit like a cop bike; I've noticed a big increase in respect from cage drivers since I mounted the Angel Eyes. Someday, when one of them catches a rock in the wrong place, I expect I'll be buying a second pair.
