Air lift 1000 on a 98 toyota tacoma

Reviewed By Nick S (TOLLHOUSE, CA) Reviewed for a 1998 Toyota Tacoma —5/26/2014 1:20 PM

I guess if you installed air springs every day it would take 1 to 2 hours, I'm pretty handy for an old guy and it took about 4 hours. The hard part was linhing up the upper bracket centered and on the lower bracket. Following the instructions didn't give me good results.I ended up using a combination square on the lower bracket with the rule passing through a center line on blue tape I had placed on the upper bracket. Drilled the holes for 3/8" bolts not 5/16 as the instructions say. Not the fault of air lift but the upper mounting holes are right next to or in between the frame and a reeforcing angled brace. It made it tough to get the lock and nut on the threads, had to eliminate the flat washer , just no room. Limitations that are not addressed in the directions or the web site: 1. If for some reason you lift the truck by the frame ( like when new brake are installed by a shop)it will rip the nylon nut off the top of the air bag and probably tear out the air fitting. . It is not designed to support the weight of the axle, always lift the truck by the Axle or remove the upper bracket bolts, before lifting by the frame. The same could happen whe you drop one wheel into a hole or rut. Despite my complaints I like the way it leveled up my truck when loaded, without the stiff ride you would get with helper springs.

Firestone Air Bag Suspension Kit Reviews

Good product

Kit arrived quickly. Everything was there. Instructions are just a little vague, but not hard to figure out. Installation is pretty straight- forward. Took about 45 minutes to complete. This was the second vehicle that I installed Firestone bags on, so I knew what to expect.

Purchased wireless one for my toyota tundra. The kit was very easy to install ,I mounted my compressor inside the bed since I have a cover on it. Adjusting the pressure for my camper and boat is easy with the memory on the remote. Very good product. Mike, North Carolina
