What’s the Best Kurgo Pet Barrier for My Vehicle?

Seat belts and car seats are designed to keep each of your passengers safe and sound, from point A to B — every bipedal passenger, that is. If you’re the kind of owner who enjoys taking your favorite quadruped along for the ride, but not the kind who wants claw-marks, shed hair or mud and dirt all over your cabin, a pet barrier from leading manufacturer Kurgo might be a wise investment. Not only will the barrier of your choosing preserve your up-front upholstery, but it will remind your dog of his or her proper place while in transit, to the benefit and safety of all.

From its base north of Boston, MA, travel-minded company Kurgo is in the business of making pet travel and garage storage easy for the consumer. The bright minds and skilled hands that make up the team there take a great deal of pride in testing, hand-sewing and molding their prototypes in-house, drawing on years of collective experience and needs as users of the very products they make.

Read on for a closer look at the different types of pet barriers made by Kurgo, offered here at AutoAnything.

Designed to secure around the posts of your front seat headrests, the Kurgo Backseat Pet Barrier features durable synthetic construction and a breathable mesh window to act as a vent for your pup. It even includes a built-in cup or treat holder for convenience. Intended for most compact cars and SUVs, but not 2-door vehicles or minivans, they’re easy to install and remove and won’t get in the way of backseat passengers. They, like every other Kurgo pet barrier, are covered by a Lifetime Warranty.

Firm, lightweight steel construction is what sets this barrier apart from the others in this article. The open design won’t restrict visibility through your vehicle’s rear window, but will hold fast against the protestation of most breeds — maybe not a full-grown mastiff or Rottweiler, but most breeds. Perfect for ceiling-to-floor fitment in most vans, wagons and SUVs, with treaded brace pads, they come in adjustable widths from 32-60” and heights ranging between 28-49”.

This isn’t much of a barricade, as you’ll see that the barrier isn’t very tall, but relatively level with your driver and passenger’s seat heights. It gives your pooch extra space for stretching out, and allows it to better observe what lies just beyond the side windows. The sturdy, rugged pad can support up to 100 lbs and measures 16”D x 52”W x 1”H, but it’s not recommended for spaces greater than 13” from the back of your seats to the second row’s edge. Also completely waterproof, they’re designed for universal installation.

Unlike the other products outlined here, this console cover won’t go appreciated in any way, shape or form by your canine. It’s really meant to train or discourage your pet from running wild or extend a paw too far into your cockpit. The soft, springy plastic and lime-green finish emulates the look of a grassy lawn, but isn’t the most comfortable material around. Universally sized at 8.5”W x 10”L, it also doubles as a handy cell phone holder and spare item organizer. Be aware, though, that the only consoles this cover won’t work with are toll-top consoles.

So, while you might have to deal with some whining at first, we’re sure that these barriers by Kurgo will make every future excursion less complicated — both for you and your furry companions.
